University of Western Ontario researchers recently discovered a substance in tangerines that not only helps to prevent weight gain, but also offers protection against type-2 diabetes and atherosclerosis, the underlying disease responsible for most heart attacks and strokes.
Another possible weapon in the fight against the overweight epidemic has been identified in a familiar source, blueberries, which already pack a laundry list of healthful benefits. Preliminary research results from Texas Woman’s University show that blueberries contain plant polyphenols, which fight the development of fat cells and break down lipids and fats.
