The most effective Leaders realize that when you invest your time, energy, and resources into your Team, you’ll guarantee yourself a higher return.

By Brian Altman, Vice President of Leadership Development

The New Year is here and we’re geared up and ready for all the blessings 2011 has in store for us. As 2011 begins unfolding, our success this year is ours for the taking because our scientifically validated products and impressive financial opportunity are impacting lives worldwide.

The formula for our 2011 success is right there – it’s all about the TEAM!

Do you consider yourself a Team Builder? Have you identified your Team for 2011? Why is it important to connect with your Team? What principles do you apply in your life and FreeLife® business to help you build a Team? Answering these questions is important because you identify who to work with and mentor.

Below are eight principles to help you build and retain your Team in 2011:

  1. Pay the price to develop the Team. The most talented players want to play for the strongest Leaders. You must be willing to grow personally and professionally because talented players don’t leave their Team; they leave their Leader.
  2. Gather the best Team possible. You need people around you that have a passion for doing great and mighty things with their FreeLife businesses. Your Team benefits when you surround yourself with like-minded individuals enriching each other’s lives.
  3. Give credit for your success to the Team. To reach any level of success in life, it takes the help of others. In 2011, look for every chance to give your Team all the credit. (Hint: mention people’s names whenever possible.)
  4. Do things together as a Team. Leaders of great Teams know that they must create connectedness in order to create relationships. People who have relationships with each other rarely leave the Team.
  5. Relate to the individuals on the Team. Every person is different in skill, ability, confidence, and personal development. Every great Team Builder looks for the gifts, talents, and uniqueness in each person and mentors each member of the Team to increase those abilities.
  6. Modeling consistent contributions. The biggest key in building great Teams is “consistent contribution.” If you can’t depend on your Team, and the Team Members can’t depend on you, to make a consistent contribution, then the momentum of the Team will falter.
  7. Provide the right encouragement, training, and opportunities for growth. As the Leader, you must provide opportunities for people to grow. Most people are reluctant to grow until pushed out of their comfort zone. Leaders understand the Team’s performance is usually a reflection of expectations − so have great expectations about your Team.
  8. Bring a unity of vision into the Team. Leaders know that for the Team to succeed, everyone must buy in to a unified vision. Once the Team is of one voice, one mind, and one vision, there’s virtually no limit on the height of success that can be reached.

The most effective Leaders understand the importance of developing a Team and how to intentionally develop those who make up the Team. When you invest your time, energy, and resources into your Team, you’ll guarantee yourself a higher return because the Team will always achieve more than any individual.
